Global Health Forum May 2012

The outcomes from the previous Global Health Forum are published in the Prague Medical Report (see document in reader below). The conference had been attended by university students, professors, state delegates, charity representatives and representatives from pharmaceuticals to discuss current issues concerning Global Health. 

 

The issues discussed:

 

-  The effective delivery of vaccination programmes in economically and politically unstable environments,

-  The refugees created by the Syrian crisis and their impact on Turkey's healthcare system,

-  Health tourism,

-  USAid,

-  and the role of Medicins Sans Frontieres in fighting HIV/AIDS in the countries they operate in.

 

The keynote speaker was leading economist Alan J.Smith, US Foreign Service Officer.

 

 

The forum was supported by students and medical staff and officially recognised by the Dean of the University. The Vice Dean opened the ceremony with a short and relevant speech on the University's progress and development and the session concluded with the oppurtunity for questions and answers.

 

Refreshments were provided by a student led charitable organisation Raising Hope in support of children's care homes in CZ republic.

The Global Health Forum is the culmination of research conducted at the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology on Failed States and Health Security and on the vulnerabilities of Health and Food Security worldwide (Quinn et al 2011).

 

The main outcome of this forum:

 the establishment of the Prague Center for Global Health.
