Timeline of the disease

 

1976 : Emergence of virus; outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan

1979 : Ebola virus disappears! Not recognised again until 1994

1994 onwards :  further outbreaks in Central Africa with increasing frequency

 

March 2014- now: the current outbreak (the largest yet) confirmed in West Africa :

Siera Leone 1107 cases, Liberia 403 cases, Guinea 579 cases, Nigeria 16, Senegal 1. The number of suspected cases and deaths however is much higher!
